Join acclaimed Wichita artist Richard Davies for a two-day painting workshop exploring the creative journey from concept to completed artwork. With more than 50 years of experience working in watercolor and oil, Davies has painted everything from portraits and landscapes to still lifes, nudes, realism, and abstraction. His work has been exhibited at venues including Reuben Saunders Gallery and Fisch Haus.
Day One | 11 a.m.–1 p.m.
Discover the foundational principles that guide successful paintings. Davies will introduce participants to subject selection, sight-size drawing, composition, and the artistic choices involved in deciding what elements to include, alter, or remove. Through a live demonstration, he will show how to develop a compelling composition, use a limited color palette, and mix colors effectively to create harmony and visual impact.
Day Two | 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
Put these concepts into practice as participants create their own painting inspired by Millie or the surrounding landscape. Davies will provide individualized guidance throughout the painting process, answer questions, and help participants apply the techniques discussed on the first day as they transform a blank canvas into a finished work of art.
Whether you are a beginning painter or an experienced artist looking to refine your skills, this workshop offers valuable insight into the artistic process and the decision-making that brings a painting to life.
