April 6 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

A bronze statue of three walking women is located under a shade tree.

National Walking Day takes place the first Wednesday in April, but we wanted to make sure everyone could join us, so we are holding our walking event on the first Saturday, April 6!

Here's what we have planned:

  • 11 to 1 p.m.:  Our partners will share resources to support mental health in the Museum lobby, including WSU Suspenders4Hope/HOPE Services, WSU Counseling, and WSU Student Health.
  • 11 a.m. to 5 p.m:
    • Self-guided sculpture maps so you can walk at your own speed and learn along the way.
    • Self-guided Scavenger Hunt sculpture maps for families. Pick a prize from the treasure chest at the Ulrich front desk when you are done.
    • Free water bottle station
    • Relax in the Dr. Sam and Jacqui Kouri Collection Study Center with seascape paintings by Frederick Judd Waugh, dimmed lighting and soft music.
  • Every hour at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.: Docent-guided 30-minute Mini Tours of the Outdoor Sculpture Collection. Meet in the Ulrich lobby.
  • 11 a.m.: Sculpture Power Walk with Brenda Lichman, Curator of Education. Put on your tennis shoes and get ready to stretch and walk one mile through WSU campus while stopping to talk about 20 sculptures along the way. Around 35-45 minutes.
  • 12 p.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1-1:30 p.m.: Gentle Yoga with Molly McFerson by Wichita Arch, a sculpture by Andy Goldsworthy. Bring your yoga mat. There will be extra mats if you need one.  To learn more about Molly’s classes, visit her Instagram profile: @mollymcfersonyoga

This event will take place rain or shine. If we get showers on Saturday, we’ll move tours inside the Museum and you can enjoy docent-led tours of our current exhibitions, Fully Dimensional: Artists of the Outdoor Sculpture Collection, Urban Canvas: Exploring Muralism in Wichita, and The Ulrich Co-Lab. Yoga sessions will be moved inside the Collection Study Center and will take place at the same times as listed above.

Everyone is welcome to attend this free event.
