My mother's home was also very much my father's home. It was full of laughter and fun. We were all doing things independently--reading or sleeping on a couch, watching television, eating at the kitchen table.
My grandmothers were both dead before I was born, but I remember hearing that my mother's mother's home was very welcoming, even for the brother-in-law who married a divorced woman who no one else in the family would receive. My dad's mother's home was said to have been a very efficiently run household. Among other things, she raised five boys and a girl (with some help from her husband) and baked biscuits every day.
