Solving for X: 29

Mother’s Home Indoor Scents of suds and wax Cooking spices, baking sweets Sounds of growing swell. Mother’s Home Outdoor Space for swings and shots Beds blooming all three seasons Running laughs and screams.

Foyer: player-piano, cuckoo-clock dancing on the hour. Dining room: She lived at end chair; travel curios in the cabinet at her back, a world of wonder for little eyes and hands; the table was for card games, rosary prayers, birthday singings; the buffet topped with fresh pies (meringue!) for every tongue and tummy. Back room: homemade noodles across chair backs ready for bubbling broth on the stove. Tiny kitchen: metal dipper shared by all for drinking water from the pail in the sink.
