A group of people sitting at a table

Solving for X: 11

My mother's home was full of handmade items, including my clothes, toys, decorations, blankets and meals. It was a very comfortable place that wasn't fancy or stylish, but was where all my friends gathered for fun. It was a place that you could be and express yourself, where all were welcome and cared for. It was also a place that could get a little dirty/dusty, allowed for a bit of chaos, and left one feeling at ease.

My grandmother's home was dual purpose. A front-facing bait and tackle shop served diner food, while the back side was a small apartment that my grandparents lived in year round. This was a place that every kid dreamed of visiting - an ice cream machine, spinning diner seats at the counter, docks to swim from and sand to dig in.
