Word, Thread and The Magnolia

January 25, 2024 — December 7, 2024

Check out our first installation in the East Flushing Gallery (more commonly known as the all gender restroom on the right in the Ulrich Museum lobby).

Created in 2023 by LabSynthE, Word, Thread and The Magnolia is constructed of vinyl, markers and prompts, leaves and resin, embroidered magnolia pods, custom paper towels and embroidered fabric.

LabSynthE is a creative laboratory in the School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication at the University of Texas at Dallas. Word, Thread and The Magnolia was inspired by magnolia leaves, their shadows, and a poem by Chilean artist and poet, Cecilia Vicuña.

Our 2024 Fall exhibitions and associated programs are made possible by the generosity of Ulrich50 donors, for which the Ulrich is very grateful. The Ulrich extends sincere thanks to members of Ulrich Friends with Benefits, whose ongoing support makes programming possible. The City of Wichita and Wichita State University provide funding support for the Ulrich’s general operations.
