5:30 P.M. Reception | 6:00 P.M. Program. Happening Now is Wichita State University’s contemporary music ensemble, focusing on chamber music of our time, including world premieres, compositions by WSU faculty and students, and freely improvised music. This performance will include a world premiere of Wherereyer manners? for found percussion by M. Joseph Willette, who also plays in the ensemble, selections from Daniel Bernard Roumain’s Hip-Hop Studies and Études (2006), and a structured “Soundpainting” improvisation, which will include fragments composed by members of the ensemble and reflections on our current exhibition, Ann Resnick: Chapter and Verse. Ensemble: Jett Calderon, flute; Joseph Willette, horn; Clem Pearson, violin; Eli Breon, piano; I Cheng Che, vibraphone; David MacDonald, director.
